Chapter One.:.The Divisions
Jogging through the mass of people, Rein struggled to keep up with her little brother. "Mark! Wait
up!" she breathed. But she knew that he wouldn't 'wait up', and as expected he just kept running
toward the front row. "Mar-" she started, but failed to realize that the divisions were starting.
Rein gaped at her little brother, who just stood there stunned at the sudden silence of the base
District. He took the nearest seat available, and sat with beads of sweat streaming down his forehead.
Rein quickly found a chair, and sat down in a flash. The divisions were starting, and there was a very
low chance of her being at the same Sector as her friends, considering most of them were probably
dead.
The apocalypse killed her parents, and she was left with her little brother, not knowing the
whereabouts of her closest friends. All she knew was that all the survivors were taken from their
homes, and were practically shipped to the base District to be divided into their new Sectors. Her eyes
were still burning from crying so much, and the only reason she had stopped was because her tears
refused to come out.
Suddenly, a huge voice echoed through the loudspeakers. "Welcome to the Base District!" boomed a
tall, burly man with what seemed to be a 'french' mustache. His high pitched Southern accent
completely denied his whole fancy get up. He appeared to be squeaking in excitement. How does he
stay so cheerful at a time like this? Rein thought in confusion. The whole world practically just came to
and end, yet this man looks as jolly as ever. Sort of like Santa, she smiled. Rein smiled for the first time
in days. Maybe she was starting to feel a bit better.
"Today, we will be dividing the remnants of our people into different Sectors." he said as his almond
eyes glittered mischievously. She played with her dark hair as the man talked about how we were all so
lucky to be alive, and described how complicated our situation was. Nervously, Rein listened as the
burly man started explaining the thirteen Sectors. This is it, she thought to herself. She will finally be
placed in a Sector, a new home, and will live with strangers the rest of her life. She was turning 13 in
two weeks, and just the other day she was worried about her teenage love life. Now she had way more
things to worry about. A multitude of questions filled her head. Will I be separated from Mark? Will I
ever see my friends again? When will I be able to see Mark if we do get separated? How long will this unbearable pain in my chest last!
Rein clenched her teeth, readying herself for the worst as the big man, whose name seemed to be
Jax something, chanted a list of unfamiliar names per Sector, starting with Sector one. "Mark
Clementine." was the last name Jaxsaid as he finished the names of the first Sector.
